Amelia Jane (AJ) Joehl was born in South Korea and raised in Alabama where she began her dance training with ballet, contemporary, jazz, and hip hop. Her training continued after moving to Dallas, Texas, where she danced competitively at Dance Industry Performing Arts Center. After high school, AJ attended the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance, and graduated with her BFA in Dance. During her time there, she had the opportunity to explore movement ideas with William Forsythe, Jermaine Spivey, and Barak Marshall, as well as the ability to perform repertoire from choreographers such as Jiří Kylián, Ohad Naharin, and Kyle Abraham. Along with her collegiate training, AJ has also attended various intensives such as Orsolina28 and Chuthis Movement Intensive, where she was exposed to works by renowned artists Marco Geocke and Peter Chu. AJ joined Saint Louis Dance Theatre (formerly Big Muddy Dance) in 2023 as a company member where she was further immersed in choreographic works by Sidra Bell, Norbert De La Cruz, Omar Roman De Jesus, among others. She is grateful to continue to cultivate and share her love of dance.
